Q.  Do I need a 4WD to get to the Huts?

A.  No, the road to the Huts is 6.8km along an all-weather, Council maintained unsealed road.

Q. Will I need snow chains to get to the Huts?

A. Despite the fact that the Huts often receive heavy snow falls, it is rare that chains would be needed.

Q. Where do we pick up the keys to the Hut?

A. No keys are required as your Hut will be open and prepared for your arrival from 3pm. You may arrive at any time of night.

Q. Will there be snow at the Huts when I get there?

A. It is impossible to predict snow falls on any specific dates. The Huts are situated at around 1200M altitude, so there is rarely permanent snow base for activities such as cross country skiing, snow shoeing etc. Sometimes, after heavy snow falls the snow stays for weeks, but unfortunately it is impossible to nominate specific dates when snow will be present. July & August are usually the heaviest snow months, but it does vary year to year.

Q. What time can we check-in?

A. Check-in is from 3pm on day of arrival and check-out is 11am on day of departure. It is rarely possible to accommodate early check-ins/late check-outs, as it leaves insufficient time to prepare the Huts for the next guests.

Q. Can I bring my pet?

A. Moonbah Huts unfortunately have no facilities to cater for pets and there are no exceptions.

Q. What cooking facilities are there?

A. The Lake Hut has a wood fired oven/stove and a electric, twin hotplate benchtop cooker & outdoor woodfired BBQ. The River Hut has the same except it has a small gas BBQ on the verandah, instead of the woodfired BBQ.

Q. Can I get groceries/supplies nearby?

A. Yes there is a Woolworths in Jindabyne (15 minutes drive from the Huts).

Q. How far away are the ski resorts from the Huts?

A. Depending on traffic and weather conditions, either Persisher or Thredbo Ski resorts are approximately 40-45 minutes drive from the Huts (45 km)

Q. How many people can sleep in the Huts and what are the bedding configurations?

A. The Lake Hut can sleep 4 persons. All bedding is in one room. There is 1  queen bed, 1 x single bed & 1 x trundle style bed. The River Hut sleeps 5 persons. The main room has a king bed. The separate bedroom has 2 x king singles and there is a hotel style, roll-out bed for the 5th person. The maximum numbers can not exceed these, even with babies in cots, as it is an offence under the fire safety regulations.

Q. Do both Huts have baths?

A. No, only the River Hut has a bath.

Q. Can I fish at the Hut/s?

A. Yes. The Lake Hut is stocked with Brown, Rainbow & Brook trout. The Lake in front of the Lake Hut is strictly fly fishing only and catch & release. There are no exceptions to this rule as all other methods result in large, unsustainable losses to the lakes trout population. Guests of the Lake Hut have exclusive use of the Lake Hut lake during their stay. No licence is required to fish from the lake in front of the Hut, however, if guests wish to also fish the river, (100m from the Hut), they do legally require a licence. (Note: The small section of river immediately in front of the River Hut is for the exclusive use of River Hut guests). Licences can be purchased online at www.snowymountainsfishing.com.au at a cost of $7 (3 days) or $14 (1 week). Children under 16 years of age do not require a licence.

Q. We have never fly fished before but would like to learn - can we get lessons there?

A. Yes. We get great satisfaction teaching guests that have never fly fished before and seeing them catch their first trout. Often guests send me emails after their stay, or leave guests comments, stating things like: "it was the best day we have had for a very long time, possibly the most fun we have ever had on a holiday!".....Beginner lessons start at 2 hours and I can't remember the last time a 2 hour lesson didn't see a fish landed! There is also a 1/2 day or full day option of river guiding with the best guides in the region. For the fisherman we also offer guiding packages on any river, or lake, in the region.

Q. Do we need to bring linen, towels etc?

A. No. Everything is included in the tariff, except food & drinks.

Q. Are there good restaurants nearby?

A. Yes Jindabyne has numerous restaurants catering to all tastes and the nearby ski resorts (another 25 minutes from Jindabyne) also have great, award winning dining options). See the restaurant guide on this website.
